A project for living systems

More than a grow controller.

GrowBro connects climate, technology and plant life in one system that reveals relationships and makes change over time understandable.

01 / THE IDEA

From a reading to the plant's story.

Temperature, VPD and light levels tell only part of the story. What matters is what happened next: What stage was the plant in? What did the system change? How did the plant respond?

GrowBro brings sensors, actuators, planning, care events, images and history together in one place. Step by step, a controller becomes a plant operating system.

02 / ONE STARTING POINT

One app. From the first idea to a running grow.

Getting started does not begin with a finished controller. GrowBro guides the build.

01

Download the app

The dashboard is the starting point for setup, control and observation.

02

Choose hardware

Choose defined integrations with standard hardware available around the world.

03

Flash the ESP32

Install firmware directly from the app and follow the guided first setup.

04

Build & connect

Configuration, GPIO and wiring plans, and printable guides help with the physical build.

↗

GrowBro travels as software, intelligence and specifications — not in a box.
Hardware remains open and replaceable; checked assignments and integrations make it a dependable system.

03 / WIRING PLAN

From a pin to a clear connection.

The visual GPIO guide turns a pin list into a plan you can follow.

App capture from 29 October 2026 · Text inside the screenshot remains in German for now.
Current plan view from 31 Oct 2026 · Screenshot labels remain in German for now.
01 / PLAN

See components and pins

Sensors, lighting, exhaust, circulation, power and ESP32 connections appear in a zoomable overview. Detail views show their individual routes.

02 / VERIFY STATE

Draft or device state?

The export identifies whether pin and pull assignments are a draft or a device readback. A reference parts list and notes complete the plan.

03 / TAKE IT WITH YOU

Export, print, share

Create the full plan with the selected view or every detail as a printable PDF or standalone offline HTML file; save it or send it through the share menu.

The wiring plan is a documented reference. Check the actual wiring and any open module connections on the physical build.

04 / ARCHITECTURE

Strong locally. Open to more.

The ESP32 controls the grow independently. The dashboard and Virtual Hub extend visibility and capabilities.

01 / ON THE DEVICE

Grow Controller

Read sensors, control lighting and climate, regulate actuators: the core logic runs locally on the ESP32, even when the app or hub is off.

02 / IN YOUR HANDS

Dashboard

Live readings, history, devices, plant planning and controls share one interface on desktop and Android.

03 / OPTIONAL

Virtual Hub

Adds multiple devices, long-term history, remote access, camera, media, timelapse and vision services. Local control remains independent.

06 / SYSTEM VIEWS

One ecosystem, many perspectives.

Real views of the running GrowBro interface. The current screenshots were taken on 31 October 2026.

01 / SYSTEMEverything in view.

Controller, sensor hub and actuators show their state together.

02 / HISTORYUnderstand trends.

Readings over time instead of isolated numbers.

03 / CONTROLControl with purpose.

Lighting, schedules and climate work together.

04 / CAMERASee the plant.

Live view, archive and timelapse add context to the data.

05 / CLIMATEClimate in context.

VPD readings appear alongside target zones for each plant stage.

06 / PLANT PLANNER · 27.09.2026Every plant has a story.

Profiles, care events, tasks and photos stay linked to the plant.

07 / EXHAUSTMove air with purpose.

Mode, output and air volume in one view.

08 / CIRCULATIONControl several channels.

Up to three fan channels with status and operating mode.

09 / DATA CENTERBring the data together.

Sensor sources, live values and actuator history in one place.

10 / EVENTSTrace what changed.

System and sensor messages add context to the measurement curves.

11 / WEATHERKeep the outside world in view.

The weather view adds context about local conditions.

12 / ASSISTANCETools inside the dashboard.

An experimental assistant area within the interface.

07 / WHAT COMES NEXT

Data becomes understanding.

GrowBro AI is the next layer of relationships: plant state, environment, actions and responses should become readable together. The goal is to understand change in context, beyond showing values alone.

09 / ABOUT GROWBRO

The project at a glance.

GrowBro / Living Grow Controllers is a local grow-control platform for desktop and Android.

GrowBro connects the ESP32-S3 Growmaster, the dashboard and the Virtual Hub. Control runs locally on the device; the interface shows readings, settings and confirmed state.

01

Measure & control

Sensor mix, climate, lighting, exhaust and up to three circulation fans.

02

Observe & plan

Live data, history, grow overview and Plant Planner.

03

Connect devices

Multiple Growmasters in the Virtual Hub; camera, timelapse and vision with suitable hardware and runtime components.

OUR PRINCIPLE

A change counts as complete only when fresh device data confirms it.

Project status

A private, noncommercial development project by Dominik Rosenthal.
